My simile poem family

walt understand the structure of a simile poem and write our own about a member of our family or someone we find inspirational

 My MUM

As watchful as a hawk, always watching me.

My Mum drinks coffee like a snail, slowly.

She is as clean as soap, tidy.

As bouncy as a tramp, always fun.

Works as hard as a bee, 7 hours a day.

Growes like the boss, because she is.

Sensory garden

Over the term 3 holidays some builders have been working on and are still working on a sensory garden. It has garden beds, pillars with a plank that has writing on it and bridges. There are wooden plank bridges, stone tile bridges and bridges made of enormous slices of wood. There will be a future garden full of edible pieces of food that I think will have an amazing smell. But my favourite part will be… an amazing water track. To work the track you use a hand pump that pumps water down a stream piece covered in small pebbles and down a plug and back to the pump again like a recycling place.

Recount

 Dear Covid,

This is the second time you have locked us down.

At home I had a fabtastic time watching my Mum go "gurr" with all the extended lock downs. Sometimes Mum would work late which would give me extra time to play my favourite game Man Eater.

Man Eater is a game where you play as a bull shark and eat fish, humans and hunters to gain items to upgrade to become unstoppable.  You can also battle other predators to claim dominance and level up to become a mega shark. The order of level up chain is pup, teen, adult, elder and then mega. At the moment I am at the teen level. As you level up you gain skills that can help you in combat.

It was hard to do online google meets because my WiFi kept cutting out which made it impossible to hear and impossible to learn when I was at my Mums.

It was hilarious when my dog Missy kept trying to do the hug trick I taught her. Here the my pet jumps to your side and I catch my dog and then she just stands on her hind legs.

The best thing about the staycation was spending time with family, unfortunately no contact with friends and my Xbox. Unfortunately I got SENT TO SCHOOL which is where I want to be the least.

Covid vaccine yay or nay

 Covid vaccine yay or nay

I think everyone should be vaccinated against Coronavirus.

Have you ever wondered how long the covid vaccine will last ?

My opinion is that Coronavirus will be with us until there is a vaccine that can control it that is available to everyone in every hospital and medical centre as soon as possible all around the world and until it is controlled then eradicated. This is why I think everyone should have the Covid vaccination when it is available to them.

The covid-19 vaccine is like a flu vaccine but has the corona virus in it instead.

The covid-19 vaccine is an amazing product that can fight covid and hopefully win for us.

Did you know? While the symptoms show your immune system is responding to the vaccine in a way that will protect against disease in the future we still may need vaccinations because the corona virus is mutating and spreading quickly

I think the Covid vaccine should be remade and tested without a rush this time. Because it was rushed and not tested first, people believe that the vaccine won’t stop covid-19.

If  people get their first covid vaccine then a second, the batches may be different or Vaccine brands could get mixed up and may not work because they are different.

I think the Covid vaccine  should be remade and tested twice. They should make more of one vaccine and distribute it around the world as quickly as they can.

Archery

Yesterday afternoon my dad and I played archery with my bow and arrow in the back field.

I got my bow and my arrows that I got for my 9th birthday. I headed out into the backyard, I jumped the fence and stood there. I loaded an arrow, pulled back, aimed and fired, pew. It flew through the air and landed just in front of the big pile of logs in the middle of the field, 35 metres away! Then it was dad's turn. He did the same thing but his arrow went 54 metres!! Now I had to walk through the muddy field to retrieve the arrows.

I had a great time with my dad. It was so much fun. I can’t wait to do it again. Next time I am going to try and get further than dad.

The Three Little Fish

The three little fish

Once upon a time in a coral-filled reef, there were three little snapper who were always hunted by the big bad shark.

One day the fish decided to build houses. The first fish made his house out of thick seaweed, the next fish made his house out of heavy strong rock and the last fish made his house out of an old diving suit helmet. The next day the big bad shark came along and chomped the weed down. That snapper swam into the rock house. “Urrr '' said the big bad Shark I want to eat you. So then he rammed the rock house roof with amazing force and the two snapper swam into the last fish house. But this time the shark didn’t go near the house, instead, he hid behind a huge rock and waited and waited.

After waiting for a while the fish went out to find some scrummy lunch. The shark surprised them but he didn’t realise he was over an underwater geyser and woosh and they never saw the scary shark again.

The duck who wanted a bed

A ducks bed

Once upon a time, there was a red and blue duck who wanted to sleep in a bed just like a cat but he could not get inside a house. First, he tried making a bed out of sticks and leaves but it was too pokey. Next, he tried sneaking into a house while it was empty but didn’t realise it was full of loud, growly cats.

Later after catching his breath a boy in a brand new T-shirt came over and asked if the duck wanted to be his pet. So the duck flew onto his shoulder and they lived happily forever. And best of all, the duck got to sleep in a real bed. He thought it was so soft and fluffy. The duck loved his new owner.

Spiral Drawing

Today I drew a spiral staircase with special drawing utensils.

Also today I made play dough that you don't have to cook.

  1. get a large bowl ( I used a cooking bowl ).
  2. Add 2 cups of regular flour and one cup of table salt.
  3. Add one tbsp of oil to one cup of water.
  4. Then you combine food coulering to your mixture.
  5. Then just mix well with hands and enjoy.

lastly today I created some snicker-doodle cookies made like this

  1. Preheat oven to 180c .
  2. Line a tray with baking paper.
  3. Cream butter and sugar with beaters.
  4. Mix flour baking powder and salt and stir add egg too.
  5. Roll tbsp of mixture into balls.
  6. For coating mix cinnamon and sugar.
  7. Cover balls in cinnamon sugar.
  8. Put 5cm apart on lined tray.
  9. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until edges are golden.
  10. Leave on tray for 1 to 2 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Sir Peter Blake VR

Walt: We are learning to find out what is happening in our oceans.

On Tuesday our class took part in the Sir Peter Blake VR programme. Alice and Grace showed us the difference between marine reserves and polluted waters.

They showed us about ten videos which were so so so amazing. In the videos, there were stingrays, enormous snappers, and the beautiful Three Kings Islands. Next, they showed a tyre an anchor, and a hydraulic piston all under the same wharf. It looked gross and murky with only small baitfish swimming around.

Compared to a marine reserve with huge snapper and kelp and a normal amount of kina the space under the wharf is a problem.

Toroa bio poem

WALT take information from a non fiction text to complete a bio poem

TOROA

endangered, taonga, majestic, docile

Lover of their nutritious diet of squid, salps, octopus and fish.

Who feels upset because of the scary tori lines to keep them away from an easy snack.

Who needs lots of really quiet neighbours that don't clack and clapper.

Who gives warmth and love to their chicks, siblings and friends.

Who fears the long lining fishing boats that set thousands of hooks that can drown them.

Who would like to stay on the only breeding colony at Tairoa Heads south of Dunedin.

Who comes from a common ancestor of the penguins 65 million years ago.

Narrative writing the red robot introduction

It was a sunny day outside an old abandoned warehouse on an island near the shore. Lumpy the small man was wearing a lab jacket staring at where the moon would be, next to Red a huge red robot looking at the shore.

This is my introduction to the narrative writing the red robot introduction.

Start of 2021 for me

I am Edward and my start of the 2021 year was great.
